Brad Fischer began his career at Phoenix Pictures in August of 1998 as executive assistant to Mike Medavoy, chairman and CEO. He was promoted to director of development in 1999, to vice president of production in 2002, to senior vice president of production in 2004 and to co-president of production in 2007.
During his tenure at Phoenix Pictures, Fischer has been instrumental in discovering, developing and producing many high-profile projects including the critically acclaimed David Fincher film Zodiac, which he produced. The film, an “Official Selection” of the 2007 Cannes Film Festival, was released by Paramount Pictures (US) and Warner Bros (International) to massive world-wide critical acclaim, and was one of the best reviewed films of the year.
Most recently, Fischer produced the Martin Scorsese film Shutter Island, based on the acclaimed novel by Dennis Lehane, bestselling author of Mystic River and Gone Baby Gone. After securing film rights to the book, Fischer sent it to screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis with whom he developed the screenplay. Scorsese and DiCaprio quickly signed on and the fully packaged project was set up on a production-commitment basis at Paramount Pictures shortly thereafter. The film was released on February 19, 2010 and debuted to a $41 million dollar opening weekend, the biggest for Scorsese and star Leonardo DiCaprio in their respective careers. It has since gone on to gross over $280 million dollars worldwide and is on track to beat The Departed and became Scorsese’s highest grossing movie ever.
Currently, Fischer is executive producing Black Swan, directed by Darren Aronofsky and starring Natalie Portman, Winona Ryder and Mila Kunis.
Fischer also executive produced three 2007 releases: the comedy License to Wed, the Viking saga, Pathfinder, and Resurrecting the Champ.
Among the projects Fischer is developing at Phoenix Pictures are RoboCop, which David Self (Road to Perdition) is writing, Koko by Peter Straub, which Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down) will adapt, and an upcoming slate which includes projects with Alex Proyas and Frank Darabont.
In addition to his work at Phoenix Pictures, Fischer serves on the board of directors of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in Los Angeles.
Fischer graduated from Columbia University in 1998 with a bachelor's degree in film studies and psychology and is a native of New York. He resides in Los Angeles with his wife Karen, their baby girl, Olivia, and three dogs, Katie, Chloe and Bentley. |
